At 800 Meta UAE, we pride ourselves on offering high-quality, reliable automotive repairs. Recently, we had the opportunity to work on a Renault Duster with a damaged dashboard. As one of the most popular compact SUVs in the UAE, the Renault Duster is built to withstand the harsh conditions of city and off-road driving. However, over time, wear and tear can take a toll on various components of the vehicle, including the dashboard, which is both an aesthetic and functional element of the car’s interior.

Issues Identified:

  1. Cracked or Damaged Dashboard Surface:
    • Problem: The Renault Duster’s dashboard had noticeable cracks, sun damage, and a worn-out surface that affected both its appearance and functionality.
    • Cause: Exposure to intense sunlight and fluctuating temperatures in Dubai can cause the dashboard material to dry out and crack. This is especially common in older vehicles or those that have been left parked under the sun for long periods.
    • Solution:
      • We started by cleaning the area and assessing the extent of the cracks. In some areas, the cracks were superficial, while in others, they were deeper, requiring patching.
      • The damaged areas were carefully filled and smoothed using high-quality dashboard repair fillers designed to restore the original shape of the dashboard.
      • Once the cracks were repaired, we used a special dashboard restoration kit to re-texturize the surface and match the original finish, ensuring the dashboard looked as good as new.
  2. Malfunctioning Infotainment System Display:
    • Problem: The Renault Duster’s infotainment system screen had frozen, was unresponsive to touch, or displayed distorted visuals.
    • Cause: This could be due to a software malfunction, an electrical issue, or a damaged display screen. In some cases, the screen may be suffering from internal damage or moisture buildup.
    • Solution:
      • We performed a diagnostic scan to check for software issues or error codes in the infotainment system. After confirming that the software was outdated, we performed a system update to restore functionality.
      • In cases where the display was physically damaged, we replaced the screen with an OEM-quality replacement. We also tested all buttons and touch functions to ensure the system was fully operational.
      • After recalibration, the infotainment system was fully restored, with improved responsiveness and clear display visuals.
  3. Faulty Air Conditioning Control Panel:
    • Problem: The air conditioning (AC) controls on the dashboard were not responding, or certain buttons were stuck or malfunctioning.
    • Cause: This issue is commonly caused by a broken button, faulty wiring, or a problem with the control module that manages the AC system.
    • Solution:
      • We disassembled the AC control panel and identified a faulty climate control module that was causing the buttons to freeze or malfunction.
      • The module was replaced with a new, genuine Renault part to restore proper function.
      • In addition, we inspected the wiring and connections to ensure no loose or broken connections were causing the issue, reattaching any wires as needed.
  4. Dashboard Warning Lights and Instrument Cluster Issues:
    • Problem: The dashboard had several warning lights illuminated, and the instrument cluster was not showing the correct readings for speed, fuel, or temperature.
    • Cause: This issue is typically related to faulty sensors, electrical connections, or problems with the instrument cluster itself.
    • Solution:
      • We used our diagnostic tools to read error codes from the ECU (engine control unit) and identified faulty sensors related to the fuel system and temperature gauge.
      • After replacing the sensors and cleaning the electrical contacts, we recalibrated the instrument cluster to ensure that all gauges and warning lights were functioning properly.
      • We also checked the connection between the cluster and the ECU to ensure accurate data transmission.
  5. Loose or Misaligned Dashboard Panels:
    • Problem: Some of the dashboard panels were loose or misaligned, causing rattling noises or gaps in the dashboard assembly.
    • Cause: Over time, dashboard panels can become loose due to vibration, wear, or improper installation.
    • Solution:
      • We carefully removed the loose panels, reattached them using the appropriate clips and screws, and ensured they were aligned perfectly.
      • Any damaged clips or fasteners were replaced to prevent further loosening and rattling.
